The wrath of tropical storms Pedring and Quiel that wrought havoc all over the Central Luzon Region  caused damage on around 9,000 hectares of palay, corn  and vegetable farms in the City of San Jose  affecting 6,000 farmers. Many of these farmers primarily depend on agricultural production as source of income.  Production loss is estimated at P104, 000,000.00.

Hit in the reproductive and maturity stages, 25 % of vegetable and corn crops suffered total damage, while 30% of rice crops suffered severe damage (70-80% losses). Many of the farmers in San sJose are dependent on  borrowed capital used in production. Those severely affected by the calamity and thus would be unable to pay their previous debts are bound to be banned from borrowing capital for the next season. Their families face food insecurity, early and prolonged lean months especially if production will be disrupted over the next planting season due to lack of capital.

The City Government, in its efforts to cushion the impact of the recent calamities, reduce hunger incidence and  prop up the agriculture production in the city appeal to agencies, individuals and private organizations for whatever assistance they may extend to  enable our farmers to continue their production of rice, corn, vegetable and onions which are the major crops in the city.  Subsidy for seeds and other production materials are most needed for the rehabilitation efforts that the city government of San Jose is undertaking.  For queries, please contact : sanjosecitypio@yahoo.com/public@sanjosecity-ne.gov.ph or post your messages through this website guestbook or contact us section.
